Teaching Laboratories
Here’s where we teach our UG and PG level chemistry courses. Chemistry labs are two hours long, every other week. They are designed to complement and reinforce course material presented in lectures. Students are provided with a laboratory manual at the beginnning of the the semester. After completing a pre-lab assignment, students under the supervision of their teaching assistant complete the experiment and prepare a report ,which is submitted for grading at the end of the lab period. PG students work individually or with a partner. UG students work in a group of 3-4 students. One can expect to see many different types of experiments including titrations, organic reactions, synthesis of nylon, electrochemical reactions, study of color in complexes, fluorescence and functional groups identification using spectrometers, to name a few.The focus is on developing hands-on-skils required for solving various scientifc problems.

The core objective of the teaching chemistry laboratories is to train students in scientific methods, analysis and documentation towards carrying out systematic experiments. The laboratory is equipped with basic safety protocols for multi-users. This laboratory maintains a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art instrumentation including basic laboratory set up (for Organic, Inorganic, Organometallic and Material Synthesis), Nitrogen Gas, Fume Hood, Conductivity and pH Meters, Rotary Evaporator, Vacuum Pumps, Centrifuges, Chiller, Microbalances, Orbital Shaker, Polarimeter, Melting Point, UV Chamber etc. In the academic year 2018-19, the lab procured equipments such as Electrochemical Workstation, UV-Visible Spectrometers, FT-IR and ATR, Fluorescence Spectrometer and Contact Angle Meter for carrying out advanced laboratory experiments.
Research Laboratories
The Department of Chemistry has set up 6 thematic research laboratories for advanced experimental research activities for PhD scholars, project staff and Post-Doctoral Researchers. The details of the research, experimental facilities etc. can be found under the webpages of individual faculty users of the laboratory.
